Why Tortuguero

Tarpon in the jungle.

Tortuguero is a remote village on Costa Rica’s northern Caribbean coast, reached only by small plane or boat. Rivers, lagoons and canals wind through Tortuguero National Park to the sea, and just off the river mouths, often only a few hundred yards from the beach, tarpon of 50 to 150 lbs roll and feed.

Between fishing sessions you’re in one of Costa Rica’s great wildlife areas: monkeys, toucans, caimans and, in season, nesting sea turtles on the beaches.

Fish with Captain Eddie Brown

Captain Eddie Brown has fished for tarpon on the Caribbean coast for more than 40 years and is widely considered Costa Rica’s top tarpon guide. His brother Roberto Brown and other experienced local captains also guide our Tortuguero trips.

Getting there

No roads into Tortuguero.

Tortuguero has no road access. Our package uses a short domestic flight from San José, so you arrive in the morning and fish the same day. You can also travel by road to the river docks and take a boat through the canals, which takes most of a day.

Luggage on small planes.

Domestic flights have strict weight limits. Pack light and ask us about rod tubes and extra bags.
